  • June 2018: President's monthly member briefing

    Dear Members
We have had a really busy month. I just want to share some highlights…

STTI European region conference, June 2018: Phi Mu Chapter in collaboration with Anglia Ruskin University organised and delivered this highly successful conference in Cambridge.  Almost 300 delegates attended from 29 countries.  The buzz was amazing and some great connections were made.  If you were there please read and contribute to Anita Kelsey’s blog about this event http://phimu.nursingsociety.org/blogs/anita-kelsey/2018/07/04/promoting-nursing-scholarship   The conference took two years to plan with groups of committed and enthusiastic members from our Chapter, the region, as well as the USA who made up the Regional, National and Local Planning Committees.  My sincere thanks to all that helped, not least to Dr Les Gelling and his team of wonderful student ambassadors from Anglia Ruskin.

Induction ceremony: Our latest induction ceremony was held in Cambridge just before the conference.  It was a wonderful event with 6 new members being inducted in person and 8 others in absentia.  We were privileged to have the Sigma President Dr Beth Baldwin-Tigges with us at this event and throughout the conference as well as Liz Madigan the Sigma CEO.  I wish all new members a sincere warm welcome; please get in touch to find out how you can get involved actively with the Chapter.  Philip Esterhuizen is our membership ambassador P.Esterhuizen@leeds.ac.uk

Chapter Annual General Meeting: This was held during the conference on the 5th June with remote access facilities for members elsewhere to join us.  We reviewed my annual report (also on discussion section of our website: http://phimu.nursingsociety.org/egroups/viewthread?GroupId=3613&MessageKey=1fda5198-5f90-4a31-bfd0-f70065149ace&CommunityKey=8fa32a00-c80d-4dff-b1b8-bceca9524b02&tab=digestviewer&ReturnUrl=%2fphimuchapter%2fegroups%2fdigestviewer%3fListKey%3dd5347c83-b4d1-49af-9e91-e58f1d85dbc7

We also had a useful discussion about our way forward.  The notes form the AGM will be posted on the discussion section of the website shortly. If you have any comments, then I would love to hear from you: jscammell@bournemouth.ac.uk

Three regional hubs are launched:  These are located in the South (Bournemouth), Midlands (Oxford) and North (York).  The first hub events are planned in July, September and November – please see chapter events for details.  All members are welcome at any hub meeting.  Please contact myself, Steve Ersser or Liz Westcott if you have any ideas on how we can make these hubs work best for our members.

Member success: Philip Esterhuizen and Sue Shultz won the best poster and presentation prizes at the Regional conference: many congratulations!  For more information, see awards section of the website.

New President-Elect: I am delighted to welcome Dr Liz Westcott as our new President-Elect.  She will take up the reins as Chapter President at the 2019 Annual General Meeting.  Congratulations Liz!

    Have a great summer everyone
    Janet

  • Induction 2018 by Janice M. Onieal

What pride... what joy... watching the outstanding video montage of the March 2018 Induction of new members into the Kappa Eta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing..... Seeing Dr. Patricia Joffee, Faculty Advisor, and Dr. Gloria Boseman, esteemed faculty member and Keynote Speaker..... seeing long time friends and colleagues in the photos, there to celebrate the new inductees as well as to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Kappa Eta Chapter.... I couldn't be more proud.  Dr. Boseman is one of the most dynamic professors and speakers that I know.  She is so right, that "one size health care does not fit all"... that we are "lifelong learners"... and that the honor cords presented to the new members will let others know that they are "distinguished in this field".  Indeed they are.  Congratulations to the new members!  Congratulations to the officers and Board of Kappa Eta!  Congratulations to Kappa Eta on the 30th Anniversary!
