  • Sponsorhip available to attend the STTI European Regional Conference in June 2018

    ​The European Development Fund is offering sponsorship up to 600 Euros for any Sigma member of a European chapter who has had an abstract accepted for the STTI European regional conference in Cambridge but due to hardship/challenges would not be able to attend without financial support.

    There is also a scholarship of 600 Euros available for any Sigma member from  a  low income European county to support attendance at the Cambridge conference.   • Spring Into Research: Poster Presentation

    You are invited to attend and/or participate in a poster presentation on April 20, 2018 at 11 am to 1 pm in the lobby of the Health Sciences & Business Administration Building at  2525 N Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31698.

  • 2018 Winter Event

    We had an educational evening at our Winter event on Monday, February 12th.  TWU nursing students presented research based posters to members on several interesting topics!  This was followed by a lovely dinner for all in attendance.  The program was full...  Dr. Olsen presented a brief summary of research that was partially funded by a Sigma Theta Tau Beta Beta scholarship.  Guest speakers Leonard Keesee and Carissa Enright presented "Hope for the Impaired Nurse:  TPAPN"

    Greetings, Gamma Mu,

    Welcome to the new Gamma Mu Chapter e-mail account.  This is now a method to connect you directly with the Gamma Mu Chapter going forward.  So please save this e-mail to your contacts for future events coming up with Gamma Mu.

    We wanted to say thank you to all those that volunteered for the upcoming basketball concessions event on Wednesday, February 28th to help raise funds for scholarships for our Gamma Mu members.  There will be another volunteer concession event coming in April for baseball concessions, so if you’re still interested in doing some work to benefit our members stay tuned for further details.

    Gamma Mu will also be hosting our second educational offering of the year in March.  Working with Simply Speaking, Gamma Mu’s educational dinner will be on Research Updates and Potential New Directions in PAH Management.  This event will be on Friday, March 16th from 6 to 7:30 PM at The Galley at Portman Marina in Anderson, SC.  You’ll find the registration information on the attached document, but register soon as seating is limited.  CEUs will be offered as well as delicious food and beverages.  If you have any questions about the educational event contact us here via e-mail.

    We hope you all have had a great start to 2018 and look forward to more events to come.  The next Gamma Mu Board meeting will be March 5th at 5:30 PM at Grand China Restaurant in Anderson.  Look for the zoom link the week of the meeting to tune in virtually.  We hope you have a wonderful rest of the President’s Day weekend.

    Patti Johnson is an RN working at CVPH who has 17 years of experience in Medical Surgical nursing, Hospice, and Oncology. She became the Oncology Care Coordinator/Breast Care Navigator at UVMHN in 2014. She serves on the UVMHN — CVPH Institutional Review Board, Chief Nursing Officer Council, Magnet Steering Committee, and is Co-Facilitator of the New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements Committee (Magnet component group).

  • Beta Kappa Accepts 7th Key Award at Biennial Convention in Indianapolis

    Beta Kappa Chapter members and officers attended the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) 44th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis from Oct. 28 to Nov.1. The convention provided Sigma members and officers the opportunity to attend lectures and network with other chapters. The Beta Kappa chapter was honored to receive their 7th Chapter Key Award. Beta Kappa President Ken White was honored to receive the award alongside Sigma chapter leaders.
  • Students Present Research at Biennium Convention

    Nursing student Margaret Dancy and recent nursing graduate Katie Young presented research at the Biennium convention in Indianapolis. Dancy presented research that she conducted with Dr. Linda Bullock during her summer research internship at the School of Nursing.  Young presented a poster of the research she conducted with Dr. Jess Keim-Malpass as a research intern during summer 2016
  • Beta Kappa Donates to Support Students’ First Aid Kids

    Vickie Southall’s community health students teach CPR to middle school students enrolled in the Family and Consumer Sciences class at Louisa County Middle School.  The teacher said that many of her students’ families did not have any first aid supplies and asked if there was any way we could get first aid kits. The students decided to have a Family Night where students and their families could come and put together a first aid kit with help from the students, as well as learn CPR and the Heimlich maneuver.  The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at the middle school provided the food for the evening event and Beta Kappa generously funded the project for $300

  • Call for Spring Awards Submissions!

    Kappa Zeta-at-Large Chapter STTI offers several awards during the academic year, including:
    • $500 Patricia Geary Academic scholarship award  (for any active* Kappa Zeta-at-Large member working on their MS or doctoral degrees)
    • $500 Holley Gimpel Research/EBP/QI Project Grant  (for any active* Kappa Zeta-at-Large Chapter member seeking funding to support research or high-quality EBP/QI projects under development or in process). Applicants must be either the Principal Investigator or have a substantial active roll on the project. Interprofessional projects are accepted and encouraged.
    •  $300 Evidence Based Practice (writing award open to all active* Kappa Zeta-at-Large members; members strongly encouraged to discuss work in their facility with changing practice). This is an opportunity for practicing nurses to share their experiences with completed* QA/QI projects, and their attempts at changing practice based on the nursing literature.
    • $100 Essentials of Nursing (open to ANY nursing student from SJC, USM, UNE, and MMC --- NON members can apply)

    The spring awards deadline is March 31, 2018

    The Research and Scholarly Activities Committee cordially invites you to submit an abstract January 15, 2018 to March 1, 2018.  The committee will be seeking abstracts related to research, literature matrices, concept analyses, systematic reviews, evidence-based projects, leadership/management/education projects, magnet projects, DNP capstone projects, and other scholarly activities.  The number of poster presentations will be capped at 32.  Earlier submissions will be considered first, so please plan ahead. If the abstract is accepted, it is conditional until registration to attend the conference is completed. Additionally, posters will be judged and awarded first, second, and third places.     Dr. Charlotte Swint has been selected to be a member of the 2017-2019 Charter Review Task Force for Sigma. This task force reviews charters for potential new chapters.
    Please be on the look out for emails from Sigma where volunteer opportunities are posted, and please consider submitting an application to volunteer at the regional or national level.
  • Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy

    Dr. Charlotte Swint, President of the Xi Rho Chapter, completed her participation in Sigma's Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy at the Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, IN. As a part of her academy experience, she presented a poster with Dr. Susan Buchholz, her Leadership Mentor, and Dr. Carol Winter, her Leadership Advisor, entitled, "Challenging the Process by Enabling Others to Act." She also presented a podium presentation with Dr. Deb Bailey, Director of the Leadership Academies for Sigma, Dr. Tammy Arms and Dr. Cindy Bemis, NFLA Scholars in Dr. Swint's cohort, entitled, "Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy: Advancing the Future of Nursing Education."

    The Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy is sponsored by the Elsevier Foundation. The next cohort will be admitted in 2019. Applications are not yet available.
  • Report from the Biennial Convention

    Prof. Elicia Collins and Dr. Lisa Smiley served as the delegates from Xi Rho to Sigma Theta Tau's Biennial Convention in November 2017 in Indianapolis, IN. Their report from the convention will be posted in the Xi Rho Circle Archives. Please take a look at the report, and thank them for their service as delegates for our chapter.
  • Retirement of Professor Janie Shaw and Dr. Debra Cody

    The Xi Rho Chapter would like to congratulate Prof. Janie Shaw and Dr. Debra Cody on their retirement from Clayton State University. Both professors served on Clayton State University's faculty for over 25 years. They both held leadership positions in the chapter numerous times, and they were both Charter Members of Xi Rho! Thank you both for your service to Clayton State and to Sigma!

  • Call for Presentations

    The Delta Sigma chapter of Sigma Theta Tau invites presenters for the Celebration of Scholarship on March 16, 2018 from 5:00-7:30 pm at the Wegmans School of Nursing. We welcome community members, undergraduate, RN to BS, master’s, and doctoral students, and faculty to present a short synopsis of their current scholarly work. Presentations will be 5 minutes, with 5 minutes for questions. Scholarly work can include, but is not limited to:

    ·        Honors projects

    ·        Master’s capstones

    ·        DNP projects

    ·        Performance Improvement Projects

    ·        Research Studies

    ·        Literature Reviews

    ·        Scholarly Publications and Presentations

    ·        Global Immersion or Service Trip Experience

    It is that time again for our Annual Scholarship applications. Forms for current members for undergraduate and graduate programs will be accepted until February 20, 2018
    Scholarship applications will be available in the Villa Maria School of Nursing, on the Sigma bulletin board effective January 30th at 4PM.

    Please mark your calendars as the Kappa Eta induction ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Chandelier Restaurant in Bayonne, NJ at 11 am.  The ceremony will be followed by a buffet brunch to enjoy with family and some time for networking.  This is the 30th Anniversary of Kappa Eta.  Our keynote speaker this year will be Janice Onieal, former president, and founding member of our Kappa Eta Chapter.  Tickets will be available for purchase beginning February 2018 and active members will be notified via email.   For more information, please contact Eric Tiernan at Erik.njcukappaeta@gmail.com
  • Founders Day 2017

    In October, members from Kappa Eta attended the 2017 NJ Consortium Founders Day Dinner.  This is a yearly event celebrating the organization of STTI in New Jersey.  In NJ, our STTI united as an “At large” chapter, to strengthen our relations with each other and distinguish our chapters in the organization.  The yearly event was held at the new Rutgers Club at the Rutgers Livingston Campus in New Brunswick.  Guest speaker, Lia van Rijswijk, DNP, RN, CWCN presented on the topic of Wound Care following the dinner.  Dr. Rijswijk holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from West Chester University and she is an expert in wound care and education.  She also serves as a consultant for improving clinical wound services.  Dr. Rijswijk spoke about the need for improved education in the area of wound management and wound care education in medicine and nursing.

    The Beta Omicron Leadership wishes each of you - and those you love - a very healthy, happy, and prosperous 2018!

    Recapping 2017, the Beta Omicron Chapter accomplished the following:
    - Induction of 67 new members!
    - An EBP Conference featuring Dr. Margaret Erickson - A Leadership Development Program
    - A coat/blanket drive totaling 140 coats and 6 blankets. These benefited the Athens Nurses Clinic and the Augusta Homeless Veterans and Women Veterans Projects.

    We know 2018 will be even more productive! :)
