  • Resource Pantry Drive

Sigma Theta Tau- Xi Delta Chapter will begin to collect personal care items and non-perishable items (see list below) from 10/18 to 11/20 to the WCU Resource Pantry.  A box will be placed in the lobby in our Exton location at the Department of Nursing located at  930 E. Lincoln Highway Exton, PA Suite 100 so feel free to make a donation.
    https://www.wcupa.edu/_services/stu.slv/pantry/default.aspx
The WCU Resource Pantry supports student success by minimizing food and basic need security and preparing students for life after graduation.
    Personal Care Items:
    • Paper towels
    • Toilet paper
    • Dish soap
    • Lotion containing Shea and/or Cocoa Butter
    • Conditioners, specifically any containing argan oil or shea butter
    • Antiperspirant/Deodorant
    • Laundry pods and dryer sheets
    • Quart-sized Ziploc bags (or similar style). We use these within the pantry to separate large packages of items into smaller packs for students to take, such as 10-packs of dryer sheets.
    • Reusable grocery bags. The pantry is moving away from giving out single-use plastic bags, so it's helpful to have reusable bags to offer students that they can use again and again.
    Non-Perishable food items:
    • Cereal
    • Macaroni and cheese
    • Canned chicken
    • Soups (vegetarian or vegan options always appreciated)
    • Canned or jarred fruits or applesauce
    • Canned vegetables (we have lots of beans, but other veggies are good to receive)
    • Canned tuna
    • Small-sized condiments, such as mayonnaise, ketchup, cooking oils, dressings. Smaller bottles are easier to store in mini-fridges on campus.
    • Pasta

    Dear Zeta Theta Chapter Member:

Currently the Northwest Ohio local chapter of Sigma International consists of three Universities/Colleges:  Mercy College, Lourdes University, and the University of Toledo.  In order to move our Sigma Chapter forward in 2019, making us more stable and viable, we are making preparations to allow other schools of nursing to join.  Currently Ohio Northern University, located in Ada, Ohio, has requested to join our chapter and we are asking each active member of Zeta Theta to vote on this proposal.  Could you please indicate your choice on this matter with either a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ via this on-line program?  This on-line voting program will be available to all active members for a full 30-days.  If you have questions about his proposal, or a desire to share your thoughts, please feel free to call the President of Zeta Theta, Dr. Greg Shannon, at 419.383.5851.  Many thanks everyone for your time in considering this proposal……Greg.

  • Fall 2019 Call for Chapter Research & Dissemination Funding

    SIGMA, ETA IOTA CHAPTER

MEMBER RESEARCH AND DISSEMINATION FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

We are currently accepting applications for funding. Deadline: Dec. 1, 2019

The Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International is pleased to award grants in the support of research and scholarship to active chapter members. We offer funding opportunities twice a year, in the spring and fall. The two categories of funding are (1) research grants and (2) scholarships for dissemination. The Chapter will award up to $500 in funding to each chosen applicant. Notification of the call for proposals as well as submission details/deadlines will be placed online on the Eta Iota chapter page of the Sigma webpage.

To be eligible*, you must be:

    • An active (dues paying) member of the Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma
    • Willing to be involved in national or local chapter activities

*Applicants may not have received chapter funding within the previous calendar year.

    Research and Scholarship Awards

The intent of the research grant funding is to offset costs directly related to nursing research. Scholarship funding may be requested to offset costs related to poster or paper presentations at local, regional, or national conferences for dissemination. Funding can be to cover costs including but not limited to registration fees, transportation, lodging, and costs related to the preparation of presentation materials.

Retroactive requests for funding will be considered if funds for the fiscal year are still available.

While all proposals will be considered at each of the two application cycles (fall and spring), the priority for fall awards is undergraduate/graduate student scholarship. The priority for spring awards is faculty and community member scholarship. Individual award amounts may vary based on the number awards given, actual research expenses and number of applicants.

Funding Decisions The Eta Iota chapter board will make funding award decisions based on clarity, significance and scholarship of the proposals.  Selection is competitive; grants and scholarships will be awarded to student, faculty and/or community nurse researchers whose work best characterizes the spirit of scholarship for which Sigma Theta Tau is known.

Awarding of the grants will be based on blind review of the two-page proposal for funding. Award winners must agree to present their findings to the membership at a research/scholarship day sponsored by the chapter within two years following funding.

Applicants are encouraged to reapply if funding is not granted upon first submission.

    (1) Research Grant Application Guidelines

The proposal must be free of identifying information (name, facility, etc.), a 2-page 400-word maximum, and include the following:

    • Title of the project
    • Purpose of the study
    • Significance
    • Specific aims or hypothesis
    • Brief literature review
    • Research design and methods
    • Brief overview of plan for data analysis
    • Relevance of findings for nursing knowledge and theory
    • Estimated budget describing how funds will be used
    • Projected date of project completion
    • Attach a copy of IRB approval

    (2) Scholarships for Dissemination Application Guidelines

The proposal must be free of identifying information (name, facility, etc.), a 2-page 400-word maximum, and include the following:

    • Title of the project
    • Brief synopsis of the completed project
    • Plans for dissemination of findings
    • Estimated costs for registration, travel, and/or preparation
    • Attach a copy of the acceptance of paper or poster presentation you are requesting the funds for

To apply, send the application, along with the following, to Chapter President*:

    Dr. Kelly Grady, at kelly.grady@wdhospital.org:

    • Separate cover page with your identifying information (name, postal mailing address, email address, telephone number, and contact person), and the title of your project, indicating whether it is a research grant or dissemination scholarship funding request.

*The President, by chapter bylaws, is not on the review board for applications.
